This golden seated Buddha meditates before a pointed-arch aureole. His hair is worked in tight curls over the ushnisha, an urna marks the brow and a swastika rests at his chest; eyes lowered, he sits in full lotus on a double lotus pedestal, both hands stacked in his lap in the meditation seal. The robe covers both shoulders and falls in full, rounded arcs across the chest and knees. Behind him the aureole rises high and gathers to its pointed top: an outer border of countless small flames, and within, carved auspicious treasures and scrolling foliage, with a lotus-petal halo behind the head. The two tiers of thick lotus petals lift the figure steadily. The gold is even and mellow rather than glaring — solemnity with warmth in it. Made to be enshrined at a shrine's main position or to anchor the atmosphere of a room, morning and evening alike.
