XM26-0391 / Wood tone · Single piece

Palms Joined, Standing in Quiet

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This wood-toned standing figure holds his palms pressed together. Shaven-headed with long earlobes and a gently lowered gaze, he stands barefoot on a double lotus pedestal over an octagonal base, his hands joined firmly at his chest. The monastic robes fall from the shoulders in layer upon layer, the chest folds drawn down in repeated arcs, a knotted sash at the waist and hems reaching the feet, with no flourish anywhere. The pale wood tone is smooth and warm and almost undecorated; the power of the piece lies in its restraint — like a sentence not yet spoken, first held still between two hands. Set it at the side of a shrine, in a study or a meditation corner, or facing an entrance, and it gathers the mind simply by standing there.
