Attendant with the Fallen Sash

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This standing bodhisattva in a silver-grey finish stands on a double-layered lotus base. The hair is swept up into a tall spiralled bun; the eyes are lowered in quiet, a small urna mark between the brows. The left hand is raised at the chest, fingertips pinching something slender; the right hangs at the side, holding a long sash that slides down along the leg to the edge of the lotus base. A fine beaded necklace falls across the chest; robes layer down from the shoulders, a belt at the waist, cloth draping in an arc before the belly, the skirt's folds gathered neatly at the feet. Bare feet stand on the full lotus petals, one foot slightly forward, the posture upright with an attendant's reverence. Cool and lustrous as held moonlight, it does not compete for attention, yet bears long looking — made to stand as the left attendant of a triad, or on its own in a niche or on an altar table, lending a corner its refinement.
