The Gilded Standing Buddha

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This standing Buddha in a full golden finish rises before a tall, pointed-arch aureole. His curled hair is deep blue with a red jewel at the crown, yet the face itself is entirely gold — eyes lowered, a gentle smile, long earlobes. The right hand hangs open at his side while the left cradles a small object at the waist. Robes fall from both shoulders in layered folds, gathered at the waist and pouring over the legs, a beaded necklace resting at the belly. The aureole is built of scrolling flames set with pink-red peonies and green leaves; a plain golden halo behind the head deepens the calm of the face. A double lotus pedestal stands on a high octagonal altar base carved with blossoms, a small lion at each corner. Rich yet restrained, it suits the principal place in a shrine or the anchor of a room.
