A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record
This polychrome relief turns a whole slab of rock into a landscape: a dozen or so haloed monk figures are scattered among carved peaks and water, seated and standing, each in his own humour. A bare-bellied laughing figure lifts a round pearl high; a red-robed elder sits in meditation; one leans forward on a staff, another stands with lowered eyes and joined palms. At lower left a small deer looks back; a blue-grey auspicious beast strides across the foreground; above them all a green dragon threads through carved clouds while pine branches lean in from the right. The robes burn red, orange, yellow and blue against the deep brown of rock and waves — a crowd of small dramas up close, one three-dimensional landscape from afar. Made to hang in a hall or a tea room, it brings a space a lively scene that still breathes quiet contemplation.
