This polychrome group sets a red-faced seated figure at the centre, flanked by seven standing figures. The central figure is vermilion all over, three eyes wide and fangs just showing — a wrathful face with its own majesty; its four arms hold a lotus bud, a vajra, a golden bell and a rope, a small face is set into the topknot, and gilt-patterned brocade sashes cross the body as it sits in full lotus on tier upon tier of lotus petals. Behind rises a perfectly round red halo, its whole surface drawn in gold lines of flames and curling clouds, glowing the hotter against the red face. Beneath the lotus seat is a dark, vase-shaped body, resting on a circular altar ringed with golden knobs and blue-and-gold lattice panels. The seven standing figures each stand on a rock-form base: an armoured guardian with a spear, a slim youth with a staff, a boy with palms joined, a red-skinned strongman — each with its own expression and office, all robes in intricate painted brocade. The wrath of the centre and the solemnity of the attendants answer each other; the set is made to be ranged along a wall for worship, or to stand as the commanding presence of a room.

The armored figure on the left is standing upright with a spear, one palm spread forward, and the helmet, skirt and exposed feet form layers of turns. I will first look at the long handle that is higher than the head, and then look at the other raised hand. The broad armor is connected with the steady feet, which gives the whole statue a clear positive force.

The light-colored figure holds a long staff in one hand and raises the other hand on the side of the chest. The robe is slanted over the shoulders, and the bare feet are resting on a low rock base. I like how the long staff on the side intersects with the line of clothing diagonally across the chest. The light-colored body makes the movements clearer. Although the standing posture is correct, there are still small changes in the hands.

The robed figure raises one palm and spreads the other palm upward. The body is upright, and the robe patterns are distributed along the hem to both sides. I first looked at the arrangement of raising one hand and holding it flat with the other, and then looked at the fine lines on the diagonally draped clothes. The body did not move much, but it seemed to leave a light entrance for viewing.

The red-faced figure holds an utensil vertically in one hand and supports a long object horizontally in the other hand. His bun is clearly high and low, and his dark blue clothes are spread out on both sides of his legs. I will notice that the red face is holding something horizontally in front of the body, the feet are standing widely apart, and the belt is gathered downwards, giving a stable outline in addition to the bright expression.

The red multi-armed seated figure is in the center, each of its arms holds small objects, and round lights and flame patterns spread out layer by layer behind it. I like the contrast between the seated figure in the center and the arms spread out on both sides. The red circle behind him surrounds the movement, so that the strong expression still has a clear and focused direction.

The figure’s palms are pressed together before the chest. The curled hair and light-toned face lend a gentle appearance, while the robe drapes from the shoulders onto a rock-like pedestal; the standing posture conveys a sense of relaxed extension. My eyes are drawn first to the joined hands, then to the soft features and pale shoulders. Amidst the more expressive and expansive poses of the surrounding figures, this sense of restraint invites me to linger longer.

The hatted figure holds up a short-handled object in one hand and holds a small item in the other. The red arms are clearly separated from the dark robe, and his feet are resting on the rock base. I will move my eyes between the different objects in the two hands. The round hat on the head is connected with the loose clothes below. The bright red color gives this standing posture its own weight and rhythm.

The tied up hair is stretched upward, one hand is supported on the waist, and the other hand is holding a small utensil. The body and the hem of the clothes are slightly sideways. I like the high hair style and the hands on the waist, pointing upward and outward. The body is standing very firmly, but it seems that there is room for the next move.
