Gilded Seat Under a Pointed Arch

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This golden seated figure rises before a tall, pointed-arch aureole. The figure wears an elaborate crown stacked in tiers, dark hair falling beside the ears, eyes lowered in a calm, inward gaze; both hands rest folded in meditation in the lap, and the golden robes pour from the shoulders in layered folds across the knees. Only the lining and hem turn back a thread of vermilion red, answering all that gold. The aureole is pierced and carved edge to edge with winding dragons and scrolling foliage, gathering from the round head-halo upward into a sharp point crowned by a narrow upright finial, gilt throughout. Below, a ring of open lotus petals gives way to a multi-tiered carved altar base dense with relief panels, the lowest tier finished in vermilion. Gold against red — splendid yet composed. Enshrined at the principal position of a shrine or set at the head of a hall, it anchors the whole room.
