Golden Attendant at the Right

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This fully golden standing bodhisattva is the right-hand figure of a matching set of three. Beneath a jewelled crown and black topknot, he stands with lowered eyes, his right hand lowered at his side, lightly holding a long slender stem-like cord that trails diagonally along the drapery, his left hand drawn in at the waist — relaxed and at ease in bearing. Fine beaded ornaments rest on his chest and his robes fall in smooth, layered folds to his feet, the gold warm and mellow throughout. Behind him towers a pointed aureole openworked edge to edge with rising dragons and flames, a round head-halo close behind the crown. Below, a great red-and-gold lotus throne with full petals stands on a low platform. It is made to be enshrined beside the central figure and the left-hand companion in a shrine, closing the set at the right — three figures shining together as a complete arrangement.
