Seated with a Pearl

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This wood-toned seated elder is the central figure of a matching set of three. Hair drawn into a high topknot and a long beard flowing down his chest, he sits with lowered eyes, both hands gently cupping a single round pearl in his lap — the most gathered pose of the three, and the quietest in mood. He wears wide-sleeved robes edged with a continuous key-fret pattern, a floral roundel carved over each knee, and a front panel of scrolling vines and roundels settling in layers to the rim of the lotus seat. Behind him rises a pointed, flame-edged aureole centred on a ring of carved petals, framing his upright form, while full rounded lotus petals and a circular plinth complete the base. Warm, still and inward in tone, it suits a shrine or a study desk — and placed at the centre of its two companions, it completes the set's quiet order.
