The Fan-Bearing Elder

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This wood-toned seated elder is the left-hand figure of a matching set of three. His hair is drawn up into a topknot and a long beard falls to his chest; eyes lowered in a gentle smile, he holds a long-handled fan diagonally across his body, its broad blade turned outward, giving the still, upright pose one clear outward line. He wears wide-sleeved robes edged with a continuous key-fret pattern, a floral roundel carved over each knee, and a front panel dense with scrolling vines that settles in layers onto the lotus seat. Behind him rises a pointed, flame-edged aureole centred on a ring of carved petals, and the full, rounded lotus petals below carry his low, steady mass. Warm and unhurried in tone, it suits a desk-side shrine, a study or a tea-room corner — and reads most complete alongside its two companions.
