A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record
This polychrome figure in monastic form rides a lion-like guardian beast. He wears a five-pointed crown and a flowing robe of bright orange, his eyes lowered. In his right hand he holds a tall golden ringed staff rising above his crown; in his left, resting at the knee, he cradles a vermilion flame jewel. Behind him, a golden ring halo bordered with scarlet flames spreads out into soft pink auspicious clouds. The beast below is sheathed in long blue-grey fur, with a single golden horn on its brow and fangs just showing; its gaze stays alert. A turquoise saddle cloth worked with gilt scrolls and hanging bead pendants covers its back, and one of the rider's feet touches a pink lotus at the saddle's edge. Set on a vermilion cloud-carved plinth, warm orange against cool grey-blue, the piece pairs serenity with protective power — a commanding presence for a shrine or a hall.
