Golden Throne and Staff

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This seated figure, crowned and robed, is framed almost entirely in gold. He wears a jewelled high crown, eyes lowered in a soft smile, seated in full lotus on a golden lotus throne opening in layers of petals. His right hand holds upright a golden khakkhara taller than his head; his left rests at his belly holding a golden orb. His kasaya is a red ground dense with brocade pattern, a beaded necklace on his chest reflecting the gold around. Behind him rises an immense golden aureole, its rim a blaze of flames, its inner field coiled with dragons and studded with jewels; beneath the throne stands an equally intricate golden altar base on beast feet — the whole like one enlarged vessel of gold. Sumptuous to the utmost, yet serene in expression — made for the principal seat of a shrine, and to set a solemn, dazzling centre in any space.
