White Beard and Peach

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This polychrome standing elder carries the gifts of a long life. High-browed and bald, his side hair and long beard all white, his face is folded in kindly laughter lines. One hand holds a large pink peach with a green leaf before his chest; the other leans on a tall dragon-head staff of gnarled wood, an orange-red gourd hanging at its side. He wears a dark brocade robe dense with red and blue scrolling florals over a pale yellow lining, a red cord knotted at his waist; behind him teal ribbons sweep into great arcs, and below, a golden cloud base is heaped with ingots and coins. Warm, benevolent and full of blessing — a piece for a living hall or a birthday celebration, for gifting, and for a family's good fortune.
