This standing armoured guardian is finished entirely in gold. He wears a jewelled high crown, eyes narrowed in a glare and beard trailing, a round mirror set at the centre of his breastplate, scale armour and beast motifs layered over one another. One hand is held open before him, the other hangs gripping a long halberd; ribbons coil around his body, and behind him a round halo rises edged with flames. At his feet a divine dog with a belled collar stands head-high, sharing with the guardian a base of swirling golden clouds. A single gold throughout, its modelling done by depth of carving and density of pattern, it shines under the light. Solemn and powerful — made for enshrining, or for the front of a hall or an entryway, anywhere a space asks for a guarding presence.
