This Buddha in black and gold sits in full lotus, the quiet counterpart to its raised-palm companion in the same set. Face, hands, feet and bared chest are bright gold; his eyes are lowered in inward contemplation, the faintest of smiles at his lips, a swastika at his breast. Both hands are folded together before his belly in the meditation seal, and in his palms rests a small, round golden pearl — the point where the whole figure's gaze comes to rest. The black robe drapes over the left shoulder, its folds easing down across the knees, bright gold arms set against the dark in clear contrast. Behind him, the pointed-arch aureole has a flame-pierced rim and a field of coiling scrolls in which several tiny seated figures are set; below, the two-tiered black lotus throne is crisp petal by petal. No raised palm, no tall implement — everything gathers into the single span of the hands: the stillest piece of its group, made for a meditation corner or a study shrine, to sit with you while the heart slowly levels.
