Seated in Seal, Feet Pendant

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This dark-toned group centres on a seated bodhisattva whose feet rest pendant before the throne. He wears a tall crown set with a small shrine-niche; his golden face is lowered in a soft smile, both hands joined in a seal at his chest with a string of prayer beads wound through the fingers. Layered necklaces, armlets and bracelets ornament the torso, and the robes fold deep red over dark green, with woven red patterning across the knees. Tall lotus stems rise at either side, their dark leaves lifting red blooms and one small dharma wheel to frame the central figure. On the cloud-swirled platform in front sits a small golden figure, belly bared in a broad grin, beads at his neck — solemnity answered by good humour. The whole group stands on a high carved altar base covered with peonies, fretwork and lotus petals: a composed, commanding ensemble for the principal position of a shrine.
