Standing in Greeting

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This standing monk in a copper tone holds his palms together in quiet greeting. His hair is cropped close, his face composed, his gaze lowered; he stands barefoot on a round, rock-form base. The robe falls the full length of his tall figure — the wide sleeves curve in layered arcs across the front, and the folds stream from the shoulders all the way down, thinning and thickening as they go, until the hem settles softly over the tops of his feet. The robe is a bright amber-copper that catches the light almost like warm gold, set off gently against the darker face, hands and feet. The stance is upright and slender, yet the joined hands draw all that height into stillness. A fitting presence for the side of a shrine, an entryway or a tea room — an upright, quiet anchor for a space.
