Lotus Held Aslant

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This wood-toned standing bodhisattva with a carved aureole holds a long lotus stem diagonally across the body, its bud raised beside the shoulder. Behind the figure rises a tall, pointed back panel covered in swirling clouds, with small seated Buddhas nestled among them and flying celestials at the top. The bodhisattva wears a tiered crown and layered beaded necklaces that fall to the knees, and the robes hang in dense, orderly folds. The figure stands on a broad lotus pedestal above an octagonal base carved with petals and scrollwork. The whole piece is finished in an even, honey-amber wood tone, its dense carving set off by the calm of a single colour. Equally at home enshrined in a prayer hall or placed as a contemplative centrepiece in a quiet interior.
