Pale Armour, Levelled Sword

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This guardian in armour is pale all over, in a single quiet tone. His eyes glare, beard bristling, and beneath his crown both hands grip a sword held level across his front; he sits wide and open, one foot lifted high, the other planted, his force bearing down like a mountain. Scale armour covers him in clear tiers, his belly round, a beast-faced buckle at his belt, his long sashes soaring from both shoulders into two great loops behind his head. Under his feet, two demons strain to bear him — one head thrown back, arms raised, the other bowed under the weight. The base is rough rock carved with cloud scrolls and a blank tablet at its front. No colour anywhere: it wins by clean tone and sheer density of carving, fierce without harshness — a guardian for hall or entryway, or for collectors who prefer quiet, unadorned strength.
