Standing, Lotus Held High

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This standing bodhisattva holds a lotus before a tall, pointed aureole. A gilded crown rises above hair touched with deep blue; the face is softly coloured with a touch of red at the lips, and the eyes are lowered above a great lotus pedestal. The right hand lifts a golden lotus stem beside the shoulder, its stalk curving down in one long arc to where the lowered left hand loosely holds its end; a flower knot is tied at the waist and the robe clings and falls in fine, flowing folds. The aureole behind gathers to a point, covered in turning clouds and flame patterns, with a round halo circling the crown. Below the lotus stands an octagonal plinth carved with key-fret and floral scrolls. Pale wood throughout, with colour and gold reserved for hair, crown and lips — plain yet adorned, a graceful standing figure for a shrine or a serene corner.
