Willow Sprig and Sacred Vase

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This wood-toned bodhisattva sits in full lotus on a great lotus throne. The hair is drawn up with ribbons at the shoulders and the gaze lowered; the right hand is raised, holding a willow sprig whose fine leaves trail downward, while the left hand supports a slender-necked vase in the lap. Beaded ornaments cross the chest and the robe flows smoothly over the folded legs. Behind rises a tall leaf-shaped aureole covered in swirling clouds and set with seven small seated Buddhas, one centred at the top, gathering around the main figure like stars around the moon. A railed rectangular plinth with floral scrolls and key-fret bands carries the lotus below. Rich golden wood tones give the piece a warm gravity — suited to the principal position of a shrine, or to a place of quiet honour in a room.
