A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record
This wood-toned seated Buddha raises one palm before his chest. With coiled hair and lowered eyes, he sits in full lotus on a lotus pedestal, his right hand lifted with the palm turned outward and his left resting lightly on his knee. Behind him rises a tall pointed-arch aureole covered edge to edge with swirling cloud lines; small celestial figures and auspicious beasts move through the clouds at either side, and at the apex a miniature pagoda shrine holds a tiny seated Buddha of its own. Below the lotus is a two-tiered square altar platform ringed with carved railings — a shrine in miniature. Nothing is painted; the warm wood tone and the density of carving carry the whole presence. It belongs at the principal position of a shrine, or as the piece that settles the air of a room.
