Guardian with a Vajra Pestle

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This copper-toned guardian stands in full armour, leaning on a tall vajra pestle. A pointed helm crowns his head; behind him a round halo burns with a border of rising flames, and two long ribbons loop and fly from his shoulders. Scale armour and a beast-faced breastplate cover his torso, his hands are folded over the head of the great pestle whose point rests on the cloud-rock at his feet, and his stance is planted like a mountain. War skirts, straps and tassels are worked in dense detail above the swirling base. The copper-gold surface flashes at the highlights and deepens in the folds — authority without a raised voice. Place him beside a shrine door or at an entrance as a guardian, or let him hold the principal position of a room on his own.
