Lotus at the Chest

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This copper-toned standing Buddha holds a lotus bud against his chest. Snail curls gather into a low ushnisha, long earlobes frame a composed face, and behind the head a plain round halo glows without ornament. His right hand hangs open at his side, palm turned outward, while the left hand cradles a blue-green lotus bud at the chest — one lowered, one raised, in easy balance. The robe covers both shoulders and falls in long cascading folds, like a curtain of water, until it meets the lotus pedestal, beneath which a ring of curling clouds supports the whole. The copper surface is mellow and even, the expression inward and kind. Made for the principal position of a shrine, it also works at an entrance or the head of a room, greeting everyone with steadiness first.
