Holding the Flame Pearl

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This copper-toned standing bodhisattva lifts a small flame jewel into the light. Her crown rises high with dense ornament, her eyes are lowered, and she stands poised on a lotus pedestal: one hand raised, cradling a curved stem tipped with a flaming pearl, the other gathering her sash at the waist. Long russet scarves wrap the shoulders and stream down to curl beside her feet; the deep brown skirt is bound with woven bands and bead chains, and ornaments fall from her chest to below the knees. Warm gold-copper skin answers the sober browns of the dress — rich, but never loud. Dignified and quietly radiant, the figure suits a side position in a shrine or a place of honour in a living space, lending the room a settled, noble calm.
