Standing with a Lotus

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This golden standing bodhisattva holds a single lotus aloft. Beneath a tall, ornate crown the eyes rest half-closed as she stands on a double lotus pedestal, one hand raised to pinch the long stem so the bloom opens beside her shoulder, the other hand steadying it at her waist. The gilded garments fall in long, measured folds; a delicate necklace rests on the chest, small jewelled chains hang before the knees, and the sashes drift down past the body to the edge of the throne. Face and hands glow a soft gold while the skirt deepens toward copper-brown, giving the figure a gentle gradient of light. Serene and graceful, she suits a shrine position, an entryway or a quiet corner of a hall, bringing a calm ceremonial air to the space.
