Wings Spread in Prayer

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This golden winged figure is dominated by its extraordinary face: a beaked, bird-like visage with wide round eyes, curving horns, a small skull set between them, and flame plumes rising behind. On either side, enormous wings unfurl in tier after tier of carved feathers, their tips lifting like tongues of fire until they fill the frame. The hands are pressed together at the chest, a string of golden prayer beads falling between the fingers, while the lower body coils into a scaled, serpentine form resting on the base. Bright gold on the face and wings plays against the deeper copper-brown of the scales and armour. Fierce, strange and oddly reverent at once, it is a commanding piece for a principal display position or a collector's cabinet — a presence that settles a room the moment it enters.
