Crowned, Holding a Lotus

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This copper-toned bodhisattva sits in full lotus on a rectangular draped throne, wearing a tall openwork crown. A flaming jewel crests the crown, a small seated figure is set at its centre, and below it the face is serene, eyes lowered in a gentle smile. Her right hand rises beside her shoulder, pinching a lotus stem whose long arc curves across the body, the bud held up at shoulder height; her left hand rests on her knee, loosely holding the stem’s end. A fine beaded necklace lies across her bare, warm-gold chest. The robe slips diagonally from one shoulder, its skirt deepening to dark copper, folds spreading in layers over the knees. The throne is a rectangular stand hung with cloth that falls in a row of arched folds, finished at the bottom with a band of small lotus petals. Ornate crown against plain drapery — noble without severity. A graceful principal piece for a shrine, or the refined focus of a room.
