Double Lotus, Staff in Hand

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This copper-toned seated monk rests in full lotus on a double lotus pedestal. Shaven-headed with long earlobes, he lowers his eyes with a gentle smile, his whole expression soft and at ease. His right hand holds a tall staff upright, its head an openwork of rings, while his left hand cradles a flaming jewel before his waist. The robe falls from both shoulders, wide open at the chest, its surface mottled with intermingled green and ochre-brown — like the patina of years — set against the bright copper-gold of his skin. Below, the lotus tiers stack in two: the upper petals carry the same green weathering, the lower are round copper, all on a hexagonal plinth carved with scrolling vines. Quiet and kindly, the figure's aged colours add gravity rather than age. It suits enshrinement in a shrine, or any corner that calls for a settling presence.
