A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record
This copper-toned seated figure is laughing out loud. Bald with long earlobes hung with round beads, his eyes crinkle into crescents and his mouth opens in an unguarded grin; the robe slips from his shoulders, leaving chest and a round, forward belly bare. One hand rests on a raised knee while the other, lowered at his side, fingers a string of smooth prayer beads; beside him sits a red cloth sack tied with a green ribbon. Drapery pools in layered folds between his legs, bare feet showing beneath. Instead of a plain pedestal, a full ring of huge lotus petals — two rows of plump, rounded lobes — carries the whole figure, and a plain round halo in warm copper-red rises behind his head. Set in a hall, tea room or shop corner, that laugh greets every arrival first — a piece as suited to cheerful display as to light-hearted devotion.
