Six Arms, Many Treasures

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This golden bodhisattva is seated with six arms fanning from her shoulders, each hand holding an implement. A tall ringed staff rises at the centre, beside it a long pole lifting a fluttering banner; other hands take up a ruyi sceptre and a short vajra, one palm cradles a flaming jewel at her belly, and another opens outward bearing a round wheel. Above it all sits a five-pointed crown inset with small Buddhas, tassels at her ears, fine necklaces across the flowing golden robe. She sits in half-lotus on a tiered lotus pedestal, one foot resting on a small green lotus. For all its abundance of detail the composition stays ordered, rewarding long looking — a rich piece for the principal place in a shrine or for a collection display.
