A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record
This polychrome group pairs a large seated Buddha with a small figure placed before his throne. The main figure sits in full lotus on a double lotus pedestal, his robe a glossy brown-gold with gilt folds, his dark blue curls gathered into a reddish topknot. His right hand forms a delicate seal at his chest while the left rests open in his lap, holding a golden sphere carved all over with pattern; his lowered eyes carry a faint smile. Before him sits a small figure in solid vermilion — a laughing, bare-bellied sitter fingering a string of prayer beads, the picture of good humour against the Buddha's stillness. High and low, calm and merry, the two complete each other: a set for a shrine, or a warm focal point on a desk or in a quiet corner.
