Mace Raised, Guardian Glaring

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This polychrome guardian in full armour sits with a red face and a vertical third eye, his beard flaring like flame and his gaze fixed straight ahead. His right hand swings a long golden segmented mace high above his head while the left raises a single admonishing finger. The armour mixes black, gold and vermilion in fine scale patterning, with round mirrors on the chest and a golden beast-mask buckle at the waist, ribbons looping at his sides. He sits wide and lunging, one foot planted on a flaming golden wheel above a base of water and fire. Saturated in colour and full of motion, he asks for no introduction — set by a doorway, before a hall, or in the corner of a room, he guards the space by presence alone.
