A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record
This wood-toned bodhisattva sits in the pendent-legged pose upon a carved bench throne. Her high crown holds a small Buddha, and with lowered eyes she raises both hands at her chest, each holding a lotus stem whose bloom rises beside her shoulder. Layered robes fall over her knees, beaded necklaces hang in tiers across her chest, and a knotted sash with long tassels rests at her waist. Behind her spreads an enormous oval aureole carved with fine radiating waves, its crest curling into clouds and flying figures. Her feet rest flat on a round lotus pedestal. Nothing is painted; the warm wood tone and the sheer density of the carving carry the piece — one to live with in a shrine or quiet room, rewarding a close look and calming from afar.
