Dragons in a Vase of Light

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This gilded bodhisattva sits in full lotus on an orange-gold lotus throne. Crowned tall, eyes lowered in a faint smile, both hands rest in the lap holding a small bowl; the drapery alternates two tones of gold and silver, the ornaments are few, the air is still. The true spectacle stands behind: a vast vase-shaped aureole rises upright, its surface studded with red dots and climbed by dragons layer upon layer, coiling upward to a flaming jewel at the very top. Below the lotus throne, a black-and-gold railed platform carries panels of scrolling lotus, every detail exact. The plainer the figure, the richer the halo — each sets off the other. Fit for enshrinement, or as a dignified centrepiece that anchors a space.
