A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record
This polychrome armoured guardian stands before a mandorla of saturated sapphire blue. Golden-faced and glaring, with bristling brows and a flame-shaped crown, he is clad in fine scale armour — breastplate, shoulder guards and a beast-head belt buckle leaving no surface plain — while ribbons loop from his shoulders in great arcs. His right hand rests on a tall sword planted point-down beside his foot; the left is raised, holding a golden flaming jewel. Below are clouds in five colours; across the blue ground, dragons and cloud scrolls rise in gold relief, ringed by a band of vermilion flame and studded with red inscribed roundels. Almost dazzling in colour and forceful in presence, he belongs beside a doorway or before a shrine as a protector, or as the most arresting piece in a gallery.
