Tablet Beneath the Beaded Crown

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This polychrome deity in court dress sits enthroned on a deep-red dragon chair. A beaded curtain of fine golden strands hangs from the flat imperial crown, half-veiling the face above a long black beard. Both hands hold a long rectangular audience tablet at the chest. The robe is imperial yellow worked with roundels of dragons, its hem breaking into waves and cliffs, a blue sash at the waist hung with jade pendants and ribbon knots. The throne's high back is crowded with carved dragons, a small lion crouches at the front of each armrest, and the legs end in beast paws. Rich in colour yet strict in order, it is made for the central seat of a temple hall, or to command a room.
