A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record
This polychrome many-armed bodhisattva stands with eyes lowered on a turquoise lotus throne. The principal hands are joined at the chest, another pair cradles a small bowl at the waist, and arms radiate outward in layer upon layer, each holding an implement; behind them the great oval aureole is woven from countless small hands — light from a distance, hands up close. A border of orange-red flames gathers the aureole to a point crowned with a round jewel, small faces are stacked above the crown, and two slender staves rise from the lotus to the figure's full height. Robes are painted in layered red, yellow, blue and green, with ornaments falling below the knees, over a dark octagonal gilt-lined base. All its presence is in that wall of light — a natural focal point for a shrine or gallery.
