Beard and Scroll

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This wood-toned set pairs two seated long-bearded warriors, one large and one small, on the same theme. The larger figure sits turned slightly on a square plinth, heavy brows knitted and gaze sharp, his black beard falling to his belly as his right hand slowly strokes its ends, a book scroll held in his left. His shoulder and knee guards carry scale patterning, robes layer down from his chest, and carved war boots cover his feet. Before the plinth stands a smaller figure with the same beard and the same armour, seated with a long sword held against him, the spirit in his brows matching the larger one exactly. Master and attendant, tension and release — a set made for joint veneration, or for a study or hall where weight and letters are wanted together.
