A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record
This wood-toned bodhisattva rides a lion, the whole figure a warm honey colour with gold touched only at the crown, the aureole's inner ring and the jewellery, black hair falling to the shoulders. Seated half-lotus on the back of the crouching lion, he holds a flame-patterned long sword upright in his right hand, its tip pointing skyward, and a rolled scripture in his left hand before his knee, one foot resting lightly on a small lotus. Beneath him the lion glares with round eyes, its mane in curls, lying obediently fierce on a base of rolling clouds. Behind rises a great oval aureole carved all over with fine scrolling clouds. Full in line and balanced between motion and stillness, it suits enshrinement in a study shrine, or a corner of a quiet room, for its sense of wisdom and steadiness.
