The Long-Bearded Guardian

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This standing warrior guardian in warm wood tones commands attention before anything else. He wears an ornate helmet-crown whose ribbons curl into great loops behind his head; his eyes glare wide, and his long beard flows down to his belly, one hand gripping the beard's end while the other rests on the sword hilt at his side, as if battle were a single breath away. The pale honey-toned surface is carved everywhere: scale-patterned armour, a roaring dragon coiled across the chest of his war robe, cloud motifs over belt, skirt armour and boots. Beneath his feet, a solid base of rolling cloud scrolls makes him seem just arrived from the sky. All presence and authority — enshrined beside a hall entrance he guards the house, and in a Chinese-style interior he anchors the room at a glance.
