Palms Joined Beneath the Arch

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This seated Buddha in warm wood tones presses his palms together at his chest, a tall pointed-arch aureole rising behind him. He sits in full lotus on a lotus throne — curled hair, long earlobes, lowered eyes and a settled expression — fingertips meeting in the gesture of reverence. The lotus petals are full and round, edged with a hanging fringe of drapery-like folds. The aureole climbs high: first a round head-halo, then dense fields of cloud and flame patterning with small seated Buddhas set among them row upon row, gathering at the top into a pointed arch around a small shrine niche that holds one more seated Buddha. Below, a square pedestal stacks in tiers of lotus petals, scrolling vines and bordered panels, finishing in small beast feet. Rich yet orderly throughout, it belongs at the centre of a shrine, made for daily veneration — composed, and more reassuring the longer you look.
