Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This copper-toned figure is shown seated in profile. Half-turned on an oval lotus cushion, he sits with one knee raised and his right arm hanging loose, fingertips naturally open; the other leg is drawn in and lowered, toes lightly touching the seat — at ease, as if just back from deep thought. His hair is knotted high, layered robes fall along the seated posture, and at his waist hang a bound scripture and a sword. Behind him stands a fan-shaped aureole with a pointed top, a round disc at its centre and a border carved full of curling vines; beside it reaches out a small stand bearing a lotus bud. Under the cushion, a rectangular plinth is carved with dharma wheels and hanging floral motifs. Deep copper throughout and perfectly quiet — a piece to set in a study, or to enshrine at a side position and look at slowly.
