The Crowned Figure of Plenty

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This copper-toned seated figure wears a tall crown and breathes abundance. The crown climbs in layers with curling leaves at its sides; the round face smiles with gravity inside the good humour. The body is full and ample, the belly rounded, and beaded ornaments fall from the neck in tiers, following the swell of the form. One hand lifts a rounded treasure before the knee; the other presses down on a small beast nosing up beside him. He sits with one leg folded, one foot planted on the seat and tiny offerings by his feet. Beneath him spreads a wide round lotus pedestal, its thick petals curling outward in layers, holding him steady. The deep copper tone is composed, with prosperity breathing through it. It suits devotional prayers for good fortune, and anchors a shop or reception room — a sight that makes the days ahead look promising.
