The Sword-Bearing Guardian

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This copper-toned seated guardian holds a sword across his body. Crowned and glaring, legs planted wide on a rocky base, he grips a long sword in both hands, one high and one low, the blade slanting before him like a blow held in reserve. His armour is carved without a single empty space: layered scales on the breastplate, beast-head pauldrons, a bound sash at the waist and a skirt of overlapping scale plates falling to his knees. Behind him, green-tinged ribbons spiral up into great loops beside his head, setting off the copper armour. Beneath each boot cowers a small demon — one pinned by the shoulder under his tread, the other grovelling face-up. Might and misery share the frame, and the pressure is immediate. It belongs at an entrance hall, a clubhouse or a guardian's position in a shrine, establishing authority the moment one steps in.
