A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record
This copper-toned seated figure wears a smile. The monk's cheeks are round and full; bald with long earlobes, he sits cross-legged on a rocky platform, his eyes curved into slits and a smile held at the corners of his mouth, as if listening to someone reach the funny part of a story. His right arm unfolds from the wide sleeve and reaches out to one side, palm open and turned up in invitation, while the left arm rests quietly at his side. The long robe falls over the whole body, the drapery across his chest swinging out in great arcs and piling into gentle pleats before his crossed legs. Nothing in the piece is tense — even the rock beneath seems at ease. In a living room, a tea room or a shop corner, it carries its own warmth, the kind of presence that makes even strangers lower their guard.
