Holding the Bowl in Meditation

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This copper-toned seated figure holds an alms bowl as if it were holding quiet itself. A small urna mark sits between the brows, the eyes are gently closed, and he sits in full lotus on a rocky base, both hands cradling a round bowl level at his lap, fingers curved protectively around it. The robe falls symmetrically from both shoulders, its folds crossing the chest in soft arcs and spreading over the folded legs, the hem finishing in a wavy edge across the seat. The rough, heavy rock contrasts with the smooth copper of the figure and sets off the uprightness of the pose. There is no spare gesture anywhere — only meditative steadiness. Enshrined in a shrine or a quiet room and faced daily, it presses restlessness down little by little; placed in a study, it becomes a calm point for the eye to rest on.
