Folded Hands, Deep Calm

Viewing notes

A viewer's written impression — not a buyer review or first-hand record

This copper-toned Buddha sits in full lotus on a round double-tiered lotus pedestal. The snail-curl hair is neat, a small urna marks the brow, and a swastika rests on the chest. In the lap, the two hands lie gently one over the other, cradling a small bowl, fingers gathered, utterly still. A fine scrolling pattern edges the robe, whose folds fall from both shoulders into symmetrical arcs across the knees and seat. The copper has a warm, mellow depth, light brightening and dimming slowly over shoulders and knees. The folded hands are the centre of the piece — doing nothing, simply being. A Buddha for a home shrine or the desk of a quiet room: approachable in scale, settled in spirit, the kind of presence that levels the heart a little each day.
